About the Episode

In this week's episode of Purple Day, we will have an autumn circle time and sing songs about falling leaves. Then, we’ll hear a story about a little pixie who learns to keep his room tidy. This Storytime episode will teach you and your child seasonal songs, poems, fingerplays, and a nature-based story. Enjoy Storytime with your child and deepen your connection to each other and the world around you.

Circle Time Highlights

During circle time, we learn Waldorf-inspired songs and poems together. This week, we learn new lines and words to our poems, making our circle time slightly longer than last week.

We also practice a mindful breathing exercise. This month, we are learning dragon breathing.

About the Story: Pip the Pumpkin Pixie/ A pedagogical tale about tidying up

After circle time, we hear a story together. We hear a pedagogical or teaching tale the second week of each month. These stories address upcoming changes, difficult events, or challenging behaviors.

In this episode, we hear the story of Pip the Pumpkin Pixie, by Becca Lane. Pip the Pumpkin Pixie usually keeps his pumpkin home clean and tidy, but one day, something changes, and he stops picking up after himself. Soon, his pumpkin is so messy that his friends don’t have room to come over and play. Pip’s friends wish for the fairies to come and help Pip tidy up his pumpkin so they can play again.  Their wish is granted, and 10 little fairies take over Pip’s 10 fingers, putting him to work cleaning his pumpkin home from top to bottom.

Our story this week focuses on the importance of tidying up. Children can start with household chores and responsibilities early! Parents often ask me what they can expect of their children and how to get them on board with chores.
