Purple Day is a podcast from Storytime in the Schoolhouse. Our Purple Day podcasts are the audio from Storytime’s Monday episodes.

In this week's episode of Purple Day, we will sing songs about bulbs and spring coming. Then, we hear a story about Grandpa Ivy, a sunrise, his friend Jack, and a candlestick. This Storytime episode will teach you and your child seasonal songs, poems, and fingerplays as well as a nature-based story. Enjoy Storytime with your child and deepen your connection to each other and the world around you.

This Week on Purple Day

Every Purple Day, or Monday, we are inside the schoolhouse for circle time and storytime.
During circle time we enjoy singing and reciting nature-based, seasonal songs and poems. We start a new circle time at the beginning of the month, learning the songs and poems together slowly throughout the month. We also practice a deep breathing exercise on Mondays. This month we are learning Hand Breathing.

After circle time, we listen to a story together. The first week of each month, Ms. Becca tells us a Grandpa Ivy story. This week we hear the story of Grandpa Ivy & the Candlestick.

In the story, Grandpa Ivy takes a walk one foggy morning with a candlestick to light his path. He walks to the meadow where he watches a beautiful sunrise. It’s so beautiful that he wants to share the sunrise with his friend Jack and goes to get him. Jack sees the candlestick Grandpa Ivy set on the ground. Being the bouncy, energetic child he is, he decides to jump back and forth over the candlestick.

Jack be nimble, Jack be quick, Jack jump over the candlestick!

Purple Day is a podcast from Storytime in the Schoolhouse. Our Purple Day podcast episodes are the audio from our Monday videos. Storytime Members have access to five videos each week along with corresponding activities and curriculum. Every Yellow Day, or Wednesday, we are outside for Storytime and we go on a field trip to see someone in the community or visit a new place. This week we join Ms. Becca for a hike on the Appalachian trail to a place called Lover's Leap. Lover's Leap is a cliff high about the French Broad River. We can see the town of Hot Springs, NC, and the French Broad River from the cliff.
